A couple months ago I posted about making a chiptune album. I hadn't begun work on it, so I wasn't sure what direction it was going to take. But now, after making some demos, my vision for the album has changed somewhat. This will not be an authentic chiptune album made with original hardware and tracker software. It will instead be something akin to bitpop, where chip sounds are combined with other instruments and effects not possible on OG hardware. Most sounds on this album will be made in Ableton Live with Plogue's chipsounds plug-in. Most of the effects used will also be from said plug-in. The main exception at this point are the drums, which will be downsampled to fit the 8-bit aesthetic.
Why go this direction? Well, I don't want to share anything right now, but the first demos are sounding good. Amazing, even. There is something to be said for a more idealized take on these old video game sounds, and I want to explore that idea further. Perhaps once I have some tracks finished, I'll share a little preview...
